Horse Arena Sand

This is the first load of six to of washed arena sand to be installed on an indoor horse arena in Franktown, Colorado. Early last year there was nothing here but rocks and bare ground just begging for a beautiful commercial horse barn to be built. We excavated the site for the barn pad to start off. Then, after the arena was built we brought in clay for the sub-base, leveled it perfectly (as usual) and then drum rolled it so flat you could play pool on it. Now, came the fun part…we brought in 6 loads of washed arena sand – via a side dump truck (you see in the photo). Each load of this sand weighs 23 tons so that’s a total of 138 tons of sand. For the final touch, we smoothed this sand over the arena using our famous laser-leveling technology.

Was the owner happy did you ask? He did 23 cartwheels and a back flip – one after the other! Just kidding. But he was VERY happy with us and if you want a reference from him or other clients of ours just give Dirt Dogs Excavation a call and we’ll load you up with lots of amazing references from clients all over Franktown, Douglas County, Elizabeth and lots of other places nearby!

Barn Pad in Parker, Colorado

This is a new Barn pad we built in Elizabeth, Colorado. It will support a detached shop. This is a building pad prepped for a concrete slab. We used class 6 road base on the top. Those are the facts. But rumor has it that our competitors were running to the store to buy a year’s supply of teddie bears and hankie’s to cry on because they know that Dirt Dogs Excavation is THE BEST barn pad company in all of Elizabeth AND Douglas County AND Elbert County AND El Paso….shoot we could keep going but they know and you get the idea. If you need to build a new Horse Barn or building you just need to call the best company for that job…which would be us.

Driveway in Parker, CO

Dirt Dogs Excavation just finished off another driveway installation in Parker, CO. After we leveled and smoothed it off we finished with a real nice looking crushed rhyolite road base.  Before we installed this beauty the driveway would just about knock the fillings out of your teeth when you drove up to the house. Now…it’s so smooth you can roll a marble for about 200 feet in a straight line. (Well, that might be a little exaggeration but you can see from the photo it is pretty darn smooth!)

What is rhyolite you ask? Most people ask us that too. Well, the short story is it comes from volcanoes that used to be active around Douglas County. The longer story is Rhyolite is extrusive equivalent of granite magma – which means its perfect for driveways and can be a great conversation starter at your next BBQ.

Bottom line, the home owner is proud of his new driveway.

Next time you need a upgrade your driveway in Parker, CO or anywhere nearby we’ve got the driveway expertise and crushed volcanic rock to get you all fixed up!

Driveway in Elizabeth

Dirt Dogs Excavating is proud to show off a driveway installation we just installed at a nice home in Elizabeth, Colorado. What’s interesting about this project is that this driveway was in TERRIBLE shape before we took care of it. The driveway was rutted out with big holes and bad drainage cutting across it. It was a good place to drive if you wanted to lose your muffler!  We cut in new flow lines and installed recycled asphalt and now (like all our jobs) it’s a thing of beauty – a work of art in the driveway world.

After we got done the owner is happy as a clam because now he has 300 feet of smooth riding to enjoy! If you need some driveway work we invite you to give a call and we’ll fix you up too!

Horse Barn Finish Grade

Dirt Dogs Excavating just finished the finish grade on this dandy of an equestrian (some say… horse barn). For this project we did the finished grade with road base out in front. We built the barn pad then after the barn was built we came back and did final grade and road base around it. Yes, it’s a pretty barn and it’s an amazing location but most people comment on our amazing finish grade first. Or…if they don’t comment on it – they should – because they are simply missing out on one the best parts of this first class horse barn. Because if the ground around it was all lumpy and messed up…that would be unsightly and probably cause drainage problems and other issues. But the horse barn owner is thrilled…the horses are happy and we are too!

Where is this horse barn you ask? It’s in scenic Larkspur, Colorado in Douglas county. Give us a ring on one of those hi-tech phones and let us give you a free quote on your horse barn finish grade or any other project that needs expert earth moving professionals!

Building Pad Excavation

This a large building pad we built for a customer in Elizabeth, Colorado.  The pad is built with clean fill dirt we produced on site. It is the lighter colored material in the middle of this photo. All the disturbed area’s around the site have been covered with top soil and ready for drill seeding which we will do soon. Oh yes…since you asked… It took 4 days to create and the pad was laser leveled flat to perfection. Everyone was happy. If you need some earth moved in your neck of the woods…be it Elizabeth, Castle Rock, Parker or somewhere nearby – give us a call!

Finishing off the Horse Arena Footing

We just finished off a beautiful horse arena in Douglas County, Colorado by adding  2 1/2 inches of sand footing spread evenly over the clay Sub-base. The arena is about 75′ x 175′ and is going to make a couple horses happier than most people as they ride around inside on the perfect footing we just laid down. We have been working on this horse arena for some time doing excavation finish work on the outside plus laying down the clay sub base. The clay is great for a horse arena because we’ll laser level it so its perfectly flat and over time the clay will pack down hard and retain its flat shape. We trucked in 175 tons of sand and smoothed it all perfectly to create the beautifully finished riding surface you see in the photo.

Yes, yes…we know the horses will love it but most of all the horse owner loves it which keeps us in business.  If you happen to have horses that might need some ground in your horse arena that’s foot friendly…give Dirt Dogs Excavating a call!

Horse Arena Footing

When the owner of this top end horse arena in Douglas County, Colorado needed a clay sub-base footing installed. Guess who he called? Dirt Dogs Excavating, Grading and Earth Moving…that’s us!  Did you know…A “perfect” riding surface (or footing) should be cushioned, provide traction, and be not too slick or dusty, not overly abrasive to horse hooves and easy to maintain. There are a number of footing surfaces and solutions available and every cowboy (and cowgirl) can get what they want AND get our professional advice when they work with us!

But back to this beautiful horse arena job…the owner knew  we had great recommendations and reviews but when combined with the fact that we had already done an excellent job finish grading his exterior…we were a natural fit! Notice how level and smooth the inside of his beautiful horse arena is. In case you’re curious, we laser leveled it perfectly flat and drum rolled in for compaction. This step is the final step before we install the sand footing. We only use a clay sub-base on indoor arenas. We were told his horse started to cry tears of joy because it was so happy with our wonderful work! Giddy up and give us a call when you’re ready to get your horse arena in gear and in top shape…we’ve got the technology and many years of experience you can trust to do the job right!
